“Here’s what I’ve learned through it all: Don’t give up; don’t be impatient; be entwined as one with the Lord. Be brave and courageous, and never lose hope.
Yes, keep on waiting—]for he will never disappoint you!”
Psalm 27:14 The Passion Translation (TPT)
Have you ever felt like what you desire the most will never happen? Have you ever tried to make your desire come to pass on your own and fail repeatedly? This is what happened to me.
I desired to be married for as long as I could remember. However, every relationship I found myself in did not last. My flesh was in constant struggle with my spirit, and my desire to be married was so strong that it dominated my every thought and action. I noticed that my thoughts led me to have negative self-talk and a lack of faith.
After several failed relationships, I began to realize that God wanted me to stop speaking negatively over my life and to stop trying to do things in my own strength. While waiting for His promise of marriage to be manifested in my life, I began to pray and meditate on scriptures about singleness and biblical covenant. This turned my focus more on pleasing God and less on the longing for a husband.
In 2014, I received a prophetic Word by a trusted woman of God. Her word in my life led me to refocus on the truth: God is never late and He has never forgotten. He knows our desires, but calls us to desire Him above everything else. In the waiting and in the delay, we can remain focused on Him and not compromise our relationship with the One who orchestrates our destiny.
The next year, I reconnected with a former coworker who I had always thought of as a great person and friend. Come May 2023, I will be happily married to that great friend for five years! My husband and I not only get the privilege of doing life together but we have the honor of serving in ministry together as well.
Even in the delay, His word had to come to pass; it did not come back void.
I was encouraged to wait on Yahweh’s deliverance from the battle that I was having with my greatest enemy, myself. Just as the psalmist David trusted in the Lord and found hope in knowing that He would deliver him from his enemies, I began to trust God’s perfect timing and will for my life. I learned to put my faith, hope and trust in the Lord.
Psalm 27:14 says, “Wait on the Lord and be of good courage, keep waiting and He will never disappoint you!” I am so grateful that I submitted to God’s plan because His timing triumphed in my life!
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You for being God. You are refuge, our hope, and our strength! We find encouragement in You and Your Word! Thank You for protecting us from hurt, harm, and danger seen and unseen. Thank You for protecting us from ourselves and for holding us in the palm of Your right hand. Sovereign Lord You know our sitting down and our uprising. You know what is to come and we seek You for wisdom, guidance, and instruction. Let our heart posture line up with Your divine will and trust that Your timing is always best! Thank You for keeping us brave, courageous, and full of hope during our waiting season. Thank You for keeping us in perfect peace as we wait on You. May we never try to go ahead of you or lag behind as Your promises are always right on time. We thank You now for the strength to endure Lord until the end in Jesus' mighty name we pray. Amen.
