1 Peter 5:8 “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”
Your prayer and devotional time with the Lord is a proactive spiritual discipline. As you build that relationship with Him, you will be given tactics to defeat the enemy. It’s all in God’s playbook—the Bible. Therefore, studying the Bible gives you an offensive strategy to win this spiritual war and any other battle you face. God gives you knowledge of things to come and reveals the enemy’s plan to us. He shows us potential threats so we can stand watch.
You can tell how much time someone spends with Jesus by the way they react to adversity and spiritual conflict. Our prayer time sharpens our ears and eyes to what God is showing us so we are not lackadaisical in our defense. Prayer is a formidable weapon in our spiritual battles. Our arsenal will quickly rust if we are not devoted to cultivating a prayer life. I urge you to build and maintain a posture of prayer throughout your journey.
Ephesians 6:17-18 (MSG) “God’s Word is an indispensable weapon. In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long. Pray for your brothers and sisters. Keep your eyes open. Keep each other’s spirits up so that no one falls behind.”
The ability to directly commune and pray with God was given to us when Jesus shed His blood on the cross. His love for us allows us to come to Him with our requests, needs, emotions, thoughts, and gratitude. When you feel a nudge from the Lord to pray for others, be obedient. Intercede for other people, for your church, your city, other nations, for issues that mean a lot to you, and for yourself. Pray thanksgiving to God for what He’s done in your life and for what He will do in the future. Pray that the enemy will no longer have a hold on you or your family. Declare that he is defeated in the name of Jesus.
Prayer is a baseline for how we war. It is a weapon you will always have access to because it starts within your spirit. From the Spirit to your heart, we can proclaim God’s word of protection over His people and declare defeat over Satan. We are soldiers in God’s army, and our Heavenly Commander will equip us for battle.
